FIT BRIDE SPRING TRAINING | 7 TIPS TO FRESHEN UP YOUR FIT LIFE

It’s finally here. SPRING.

Time to chuck off the bulky sweaters, watch the snow melt and get ready for sunshine and warmer weather – yay! Hard to believe that here in Portland (and so many other places around the country, for that matter) we were up to our eyeballs in snow and ice just a few short weeks ago, right?

Well, if you’re like me you’re probably thinking about doing some spring cleaning around your home or office. This is the perfect time to do a little self-care “spring cleaning” as well, and to freshen up that tired winter fitness routine. This can help you clear out the old mental clutter that may have accumulated and reclaim that sense of excitement and motivation you felt back in January and when you first got engaged. If you're wedding is coming up this spring or summer, it's also a good time to assess your progress and review areas of your life that could use a little more TLC. Here are seven ideas to get you going.

one. pull out your Fit Bride goals.
Remember those? Go get your journal, crumpled napkin, note card… write them down if you didn’t cause no, in your head isn’t good enough... But, take a moment to review your journey so far this year. How are you doing? Is what you’re doing working? Are your progressing?

Based on your answer either keep going with your plan, or reposition as needed. Your wedding may have been the catalyst, but it's important to create a healthy fit lifestyle you can maintain once you move from bride to wife. Show up for yourself and take action.

two. clean out your pantry.
Are there foods in there that don’t fit your Fit Bride goals? How long has that package of fill-in-the-blank or that can of whatever-it-is from the holidays (or beyond) been up there anyway? Clean out that old narly stuff and then go shopping for the nourishing fuel your body needs to be your best! What you eat is just as important as your other Fit Bride habits like your consistent workouts and getting enough sleep.

three. create a new playlist.
Music changes things. Have you ever had a moment when you just “weren’t feeling” your workout? No need to answer, I know you have. We all have those times. But, then your favorite song comes on and something just clicks. Suddenly you feel like a superhero, beasting through your workout. It feels awesome, doesn’t it? Those notes have changed your mood and your energy, and it just feels GOOD. Now you’re working harder and loving it. That’s the power of a good playlist. Check out our new Spring Playlist on Spotify for some fresh ideas for your list.

four. get some new gear.
Who doesn’t like that “new shoes feel"? If you’ve had your shoes for a while you may not have noticed how your shoes don’t hug your feet and absorb shock the way they used to. And how about your workout clothes? Swap out and replace stretched out, tattered workout clothes as well. You deserve it! Plus, when you like the way you look it can help you feel more confident and focused, which can translate into more effort on your part and better results.

five. grab yer partner.
Nope, not for country line dancing, unless that’s your thang, of course. We’re talking about a workout buddy or small group. Solo workouts are great but sometimes the accountability of having another person or two (or three) can make all the difference in your consistency and, by extension then, your success.

For instance, it’s a lot harder to skip when you know someone’s waiting for you. It’s also harder to wimp out on a move when there’s some cheering (or egging in some cases, aka healthy competition) you on. Do choose based on similar schedules and goals, or join a class that can accommodate your fitness level.

six. schedule your check ups.
When was your last physical? Do you need your teeth cleaned? How about your annual mammogram (ladies) or prostate exam (guys)? You may look and feel fine but it’s important to get yourself checked out regularly to make sure things are functioning properly.

seven. change things up.
Let’s be real. Is your current fitness routine working? Do you look and feel the way you want to? If the answer is yes, you’re on the right track and probably mix things up in a way that works. If the answer is no, it’s probably time for a change. Do you need to burn more fat? Do you need more strength and stamina? How’s your flexibility? A well designed fitness training program should bring balance to the body so you can do the things you want to and feel good, too.

Of course, this list is only meant to get you going. Consider the different aspects of your life and do what you need to in order to feel renewed and refreshed. Keep it fun and keep it meaningful.

TO YOUR SUCCESS!
